Who We Are
Child life specialists and creative arts therapists are healthcare professionals whose work addresses psychosocial issues related to illness and healthcare interactions for infants, children, adolescents, and their families. The clinician provides assessment of family dynamics, interpersonal communication, group process, behavior management, human growth and development. Treatment goals are established based upon the individual’s specific needs, diagnosis, age, ability and interest.

Art therapy, music therapy and dance/movement therapy are three distinct health professions that incorporate creative expression of feelings within a therapeutic relationship. These therapies address physical, psychological, cognitive, emotional and social needs of the pediatric population and their family members. Art, music, and dance/movement therapies provide a universal form of communication, which is not limited or restricted by age, language and cognitive abilities.

Both professions utilize play and the arts for developmentally appropriate interventions to support coping, decrease stress and optimize development while pediatric patients are hospitalized or dealing with a chronic illness.
